Nuclear missiles are serious business. 

The silos that store and launch them are high-tech and state-of-the-art. But we can’t help but look at some of these pictures and feel that some goofy Star Wars alien is just out of frame sitting at the control panel.

These missile silos run the gamut of science fiction, too. While a lot of them could be mistaken for frames from 2001: A Space Odyssey, many would also be right at home in the wasteland of Mad Max. It’s ironic that some of these facilities that could easily cause the apocalypse already look post-apocalyptic themselves.

Try not to be too aware of your mortality when you check out these pics of military installations with the potential to end the world. Nuclear war hasn’t started yet, and you have plenty of time to look at galleries like this.
